We’ve recently started replacing the conventional light bulbs in our
home as they “expire”, with energy saving Compact Fluorescent Lamps or
(CFL’s). It will take a while to replace all of them, but we’ll get
there eventually. This is a simple way to do something very positive
for the environment.
So why switch to CFL’s? Several good reasons. • While CFL bulbs are more expensive to purchase, they’re generally said to last 10x that of conventional bulbs. • CFL’s produce an equal amount of light as compared to conventional bulbs, but at far less wattage. • Replacing less often means less waste going to our dumps. This document gives you some idea of the cost savings by utilizing CFL’s in your home. We’d spend a small fortune replacing all the bulbs at once, but there’s no real reason to do that. If we replace the conventional bulbs as they go out naturally, the cost impact is small, but the long term benefits will be great! As LED lights grow in popularity, their price is sure to decrease, making them the natural choice to replace the CFL. They are again more expensive, but last longer than CFLs and at much less energy usage. If you’re concerned about your environment, but aren’t sure how you can help, then changing out your light bulbs is one of the easiest things you can do. |
